Oliver Class - Spring Term - January 2012Dear Parents and Carers, Happy New Year and welcome back! Our free flow topic for this term is called "Lights, Camera, Action." In this topic, we will be learning about how we could show a story of Little Red Riding Hood. During the term we will be visiting the Windmill Theatre and seeing a production by the Rainbow Theatre group. During Literacy, this term we will begin by looking at different stories by the same author, our author for this term is Julia Donaldson. As part of our Science for this term we shall begin by looking at Light and Dark and learning about different light sources, the absence of light and shadows. After half term we shall continue developing our science investigation skills and will participate in lots of different exciting science experiments. We are lucky enough to have an outside teacher coming in to teach our class Street dancing on a Tuesday afternoon. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that PE kit needs to be clearly labelled with your child's name. The P.E kit consists of blue PE shorts, white PE t-shirt and plimsolls for outside. As it is cold, we recommend that your child has another jumper that is not their school jumper/ jogging bottoms for outside PE until the warmer weather arrives. On a Friday as part of circle time we have a small show and tell session, please can you ensure that if your child does wish to bring something in on Friday that it fits safely inside their tray as there is little storage space within the classroom. If you have any questions or issues to discuss then please do not hesitate to ask us. Rachel George and Kimberley McKenna |

Farrant Class - Spring Term - 22nd February 2012Dear Parents/Carers, Topic Letter for Foundation Stage ChildrenThis half term, we are working towards Easter, with the emphasis on all things growing. We will be looking at the development of frogs, and thinking about what comes out of an egg. We will be taking a look at families and thinking about how the children themselves have changed (you may want to prepare some photographs for the children to bring in, in two weeks time). There will also be an increasing amount of work outside and in the garden, when we will be growing plants and watching the environment closely for signs of Spring. During one of these activities, later in the term, the children will be planting beans in pots, and taking them home to look after during the holidays. We will then measure them when they bring them back after Easter. Other outside work will include art and sports. As you will no doubt have noticed, we indulge in plenty of 'messy' activities, and our school aprons have proved less than effective on many occasions. We are therefore considering an alternative method of keeping clean(er). We are suggesting that your child brings in their own covering for messy activities, which can be anything from a commercially bought apron, an old, large raincoat , to an old shirt with Velcro where the buttons were-anything old you have which will keep off the worst of the paint, glue, crayon, compost etc. This will be kept at school where the aprons now hang, and taken home when necessary or every half term, for a wash. Hopefully, this will keep everybody a little cleaner as we progress through the term - we can but try! On the subject of messy activities, we would welcome a variety of recycled resources for mixing, spraying etc. If you could collect, and bring in any of the following, we would be very grateful: Margarine tubs Yoghurt pots Washing up liquid bottles Large cereal boxes-flat Empty lemonade / water bottles Any small interesting shaped bottles, lids, cartons etc. you may otherwise throw away. As well as the above, we are always very happy if your child wants to bring in something connected with the topic and show it to the other children. Thank you We are looking forward to a busy and fun filled half term. As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to come and ask. Thank you for your support. Best wishes to you all. Gudrun Shanks Cara Hood PS. A reminder that the Easter workshop will take place on Thursday 29th March. If you can arrange for an adult to be there, your child will not need to feel left out. |
