Collective Worship
The collective worship at St. Mary's is based on the beliefs and practices of the Church of England. It is co-ordinated by the Headteacher.
The act of worship will take place within the school's assembly or as a class or key stage experience.
The aims, themes and content of the worship will be related to current school curriculum and will be an integral but unique part of the school day. It will reflect Christian values, festivals and events.
The school believes it is important to meet together to strengthen and enjoy our sense of community and shared beliefs and values.
Religious Education and Collective Worship
"All pupils in attendance at a maintained school shall on each day take part in an act of collective worship"...unless "the parent...requests that he may be wholly or partly excused from attendance at religious worship in the school."
1988 Education Reform Act 6(1) and 9(3).
We would draw parent's attention to the Anglican foundation of the school and to the statements in our school policy documents for RE and Worship. (see below)
"We consider Collective Worship/Religious Education to be an essential and integral element of school life and we hope that where parents choose for their child to attend this school they are aware of the great importance attached to Collective Worship/Religious Education".
