School Lunch
West Sussex County Council have a contract with ISS to provide lunch in all local authority schools and all children in Years R, 1 and 2 are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal (see below).
FEED App Details: When your child joins St Mary’s, you will receive an invitation to sign up to FEED, which is the lunch ordering App used by all WSCC schools. If you have any issues or concerns, you can each out direct to ISS via their website at www.feedwestsussex.co.uk.
Menus: The menu for each term is published on the FEED website.
Parent training video: ISS have put together a short video walking parents through how to set up their FEED account, which can be viewed at www.feedwestsussex.co.uk.
Placing orders: Once registered, parents will be able to browse the menu and place meal orders directly through the app or web portal. We would encourage parents to set up their account and place their first order as early as possible, to help make sure the start of term runs smoothly for everyone.
A few features worth knowing about:
- Parents can order for the whole term in one go, or set recurring or default orders, such as a vegetarian meal four days a week and a packed lunch on Monday’s.
- Auto top-up can be switched on so the account balance is topped up automatically when it runs low.
- Multiple children can be managed under one parent account, even across different schools and year groups.
- Parents will be able to order food via the FEED app in August.
- Orders can be placed or cancelled, up until 9am on the day, so children can still have a school meal even if the order is placed that morning.
- The FEED app only allows one parent email to be registered, so if you share responsibility for your child, please ensure you agree which parent will assume responsibility for lunch orders, or share your login details between you.

Packed Lunches
If your child brings a packed lunch, please note that sweets, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks are not allowed. Please ensure that packed lunches contain a healthy balance – not just crisps and biscuits. Lunchboxes and water bottles should be clearly named.
Fruit and water
Children in KS1 are provided with a piece of fruit every break time. In KS2 your child may bring a piece of fruit in from home to eat at this time. Children should all have a water bottle which they may access during the school day. Water aids concentration and supports learning. However, any juice or flavoured water is not allowed and will be replaced if brought in.
Free School Meals
Some children in years 3 to 6 are also entitled to Free School Meals because parents are claiming certain benefits. If you think you are eligible for FSM, please do apply, as it also entitles the school to additional funding to support your child in their education.
