Welcome to Normanby Class
Normanby Class is taught by Mrs George and Mrs Sankey. We are a very experienced teaching team and make sure that our learning is robust but fun too! We have high expectations in this class - we are the top of the school after all - but we are kind and expect our tribe to display our school values and our particular class value of kindness to others, to teachers, and to ourselves.
Year 5/6 can be challenging, but with our support and encouragement you will flourish. In return from you, we expect a positive switched on mindset and a willingness to accept mistakes and successes! We have lots of exciting topics to look forward to this year including Space, The Maya, World War 2 .....
We also go on lots of trips, including our new (and very exciting) trip to the Isle of Wight for Year 6 in summer.
We run the Daily Mile every day (although obviously there will be exceptions to this!) so trainers are needed in school every day. Our PE days are usually Monday and Friday but in the first half of the Autumn Term we will be swimming on a Thursday morning so will not be doing PE on a Monday.
Every person in our class has a role to play. Every person will be allocated a job and these will change termly. In Year 5/6 you also have the chance to stand as team captain or vice captain for your house. The elections for these positions will be held close to the start of Autumn Term and all those who wish to try are encouraged and supported to do so.
Our homework expectations are changing this year, as we continue to recover and rebuild from the pandemic. We expect you to read for 20 minutes 4 times a week (minimum) and record this in your reading record. We also expect you to practice timetables using TT Rockstars. For this term there will be no formal maths and English sent home. There will be one piece of topic related homework to complete per half-term.
