PSHE and RSE

At St Mary’s so much of what we do is built around the needs of each child. Our Personal, Social and Health Education encompasses much more than the statutory Relationship, Sex and Health education. It is threaded through our collective worship, playtimes, class circle times and behaviour policy. We believe strongly that educating the whole child is so important in preparing them for the wider world and life beyond school.

How we meet these aims

At St Mary’s we follow the JIGSAW approach to support the delivery of the statutory requirements of Relationship, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) as part of a wider curriculum covering all aspects of Personal, Social and Health Education.  Our curriculum is delivered through a mindful approach and allows us to adapt to the needs of each child.

We’ve worked hard to make sure that our curriculum reflects:

  • Our pupils’ age and maturity levels, as well as their cultural and religious backgrounds
  • The values of our school community
  • Every pupil’s learning needs
  • What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world

You can find our policy that explains how this works here: Our Policies.
