Free School Meals

Could you be entitled to receive Free School Meals?

The current entitlement for free school meals applies to parents who are in receipt of Income support, income-based jobseekers allowance, support under Part V1 of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999, Pension Credit, Income Related Employment and Support Allowance, or Child Tax Credit only - with an assessed income of below £16,190. This entitlement applies to all pupils regardless of where they live.

Free school meals are an entitlement and registering for them is a totally confidential process. It does not mean that your children are 'singled out' in any way or that they must receive the meals on a daily basis. Children may still prefer to take a packed lunch but have the option of a hot meal.

School funding from central government via the County Council has been reduced and therefore the formula which generates funds for schools will change. The benefit to the school is that funding will better reflect the economic situation that families find themselves in at this time and we would urge those who are eligible to register.

Further information and Application Forms are available from the School Office.

Universal infant free school meals

From September 2014 all children in Reception classes, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive a Universal Infant Free School Meal (UiFSM) each day if they choose to.

We ask that all parents of children in Years R-2 register their child with the school office for their child to receive a UiFSM. If your child decides that the no longer wish to take these meals then the school requires ONE FULL WEEKS NOTICE.

Whilst registered for a UiFSM your child does not have to take the hot meal offered each day and may choose from the current published menu.

The UiFSM is a completely separate entitlement to the Pupil Premium Free School Meals which all children whose families are in receipt of certain benefits are entitled to receive. These meals must be registered for even if their children are entitled to a UiFSM in Years R-2 as this entitlement attracts vital funding to the school which will benefit your children in terms of their learning and also offers financial assistance for activities such as swimming lessons and residential trips and visits.

Further information is available from the school office on both the UiFSM and Pupil Premium Free School Meal schemes.
