Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the Summer Term! We can't believe we are now at this point in the year. It's going to be a fun and jam-packed term ahead with lots of exciting activities planned for the children.

We will spend the first half of the term focusing on growing, trees and mini beasts. The children have asked if we can finish this half term off with a Teddy Bears Picnic. This will be held on Thursday 25th May and the children can bring in their teddy on this day. The children will prepare snacks that will be eaten for our picnic. We will be providing the food for the children. Also during that week we will be welcoming some pupils from a local special school for shared activities.
During the second half of the term we will be learning about animals. We will be focusing on domestic animals, farm animals and wild animals. We have two trips planned for the children. Firstly, we will be spending the morning at Pets at Home where the children will learn lots of information about caring for a pet and they will be given the opportunity to handle the animals. We will then round up our learning about animals and celebrate our wonderful year with a visit to Drusilla's zoo. Details of these visits will be given nearer the time.

As part of our learning about animals we are planning on turning our role-play area into a vets. If you have anything at home we can use for our role-play area please can you bring it in. e.g. pet carriers, soft toys that can be our animals in our vets, dressing up outfits, medical kits, bowls etc.… Please do not bring in anything that is of great value to your child as it's going to be played with by the whole class.

Please can you continue to read and share the books that the children bring home from the baskets and also continue learning the 'Grid words' that are stapled at the front of their reading records.

As we are now in the Summer Term and the weather is getting warmer please can the children have a named bottle at school so that they can have water available to them at all times.

As we move into hotter weather please make sure the children have a named sunhat and sun cream on. They are welcome to have sun cream at school which can be stored in their book bags but they will need to apply it themselves.

We will be spending most of our PE lessons outside this term. Please can you ensure that your child has a PE kit that fits- shorts, t-shirt and a suitable fitted pair of sports shoes (e.g. trainers, plimsolls). We have had a couple of children complain their sports shoes are tight so please can you check your child's are comfortable.

We hope everyone enjoys their final term in Farrant class. If you do have any questions please do not hesitate in coming to see us.

Kind regards,

Mrs Anderson, Mrs Shanks and Mrs Mitchell
