Welcome back for the Spring Term! We hope you all had a great Christmas and would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2017. Thank you very much for all the lovely gifts and cards you kindly gave us at the end of last term, they were very much appreciated.
Our topic this half term is 'Doing the Write Thing' which is a literacy based topic with a focus on independent writing in response to high quality text and related experiences. Pupils will be expected to write at least two pieces in response to the inputs and to take account of their personal targets as they write. In science, the children will be making their own shadow puppet theatres and becoming experts on 'Light' through a series of investigations in the process.
Next half term, our topic will be 'Make what you will of this' which is DT based, concentrating on the properties of different materials and learning a number of joining skills. Our PE this term covers dance, basketball and team games so please could you ensure that your child has all their PE kit in school, including jogging bottoms and a spare jumper for when we go outside. Our PE lessons are on Wednesdays and Fridays but please bring in kits everyday to allow for flexibility.
For homework can you please listen to your child read every day, record this in their reading diaries and ask questions to encourage deeper understanding. We also have a reading challenge to promote the importance of this; the children can earn spots which add up to win prizes. This is really essential as children use their reading skills to access all areas of the curriculum. We will continue to have spelling and times tables tests every week and we appreciate the parents who are able to stay in the mornings and help their children, and others, to learn. You should have already received a timetable of other homework tasks to hand in throughout the term but if for some reason yours didn't make it home please come and ask for one.
As always we have an open door policy so please feel free to come and see us before or after school if you think there is anything we need to know regarding your child or make an appointment if you wish to discuss anything in more detail.
We are looking forward to sharing a fun Spring Term with you,
Mrs Brand and Mrs Black
